Explorer Log: Entry 1 - The Captain & Her Compass

I am in the empowerment business, always have been. Growing up I was raised to believe in and love myself, beliefs which I still have to practice as they do not always come easily. But this foundation has served me well into adulthood, informing the mindsets that I embrace and the decisions I make. And I believe that all people are capable of the same inner strength. Confidence is not a binary have/have not but a series of choices we get to make every single day.

I think people have more power, wisdom, and answers than they realize and I strive to illuminate that within others. In my former work as a global HR professional then management consultant, empowering others took the form of providing answers and solutions.

Currently as an executive leadership coach I am still driven to empower others, but now that takes the shape of asking questions and listening deeply. I support transformational growth of you becoming your clearest, boldest, bravest self, primarily by tuning into the wisdom that you hold inside yourself.

And it doesn’t hurt that I’ve always been curious about the human experience.

As a kid I spent hours flipping through National Geographic magazines at home. Once I came across an original copy of Kon Tiki on a bookshelf and devoured it. It is the first memory I have of grasping the risk, the excitement, the possibility of doing something daring, namely building and sailing a raft from South America to the Polynesian islands.

Later I read Into Thin Air, consumed articles on hiking and Polar exploration, and poured through National Geographic. Literature introduced me to exotic places, people who sought to push the limits of human potential, professionals driven by extreme passion for their work and who wanted to share their findings for the benefit of others’ learning. I wanted to be a National Geographic photographer and I wanted to travel.

Over time I traveled to the Peruvian Amazon, took classes on Underwater Archaeology, lived in a South African township and learned Xhosa, moved to Qatar alone at the age of 22, dived with a migrating whale shark off the coast of Oman, traveled solo to Syria and summited Kilimanjaro, to name a few. Many of these were challenging experiences that have been incredibly lonely, uncomfortable, frustrating and painful. No instagram facade here. And these adventures have taught me about my limits, my capabilities and what is possible.

I brought to all of this a great sense of curiosity and interest in learning more about things I don’t know. This served me well in corporate life and working internationally as I have throughout my career.

My life has a different pace for now, but I still find solace in the woods & water and thrill in uncertain adventures. Exploration has always deeply intrigued, positively motivated, and sincerely humbled me.

This is what I bring to my coaching - deep curiosity, motivation to help you be the best leader you can be, and a structured approach that is both personal and pragmatic. I meet you where you are with the best of my gifts. This is the work that I love doing - exploring leadership and empowering clients.

⭐️ I am deeply invested in you being the best leader that you can be, and partner with clients on three things:

✅ Bringing calm to the chaos

✅ Having clarity in decision making

✅ Maintaining confidence in their leadership

That’s what you get when you work with me - ✨ calm, clarity, and confidence. Interested? Curious? Know someone who might benefit from this work? Let me know and let's explore, together.
